Nouvel's idea is centered on a massive silvery dome that appears to float above the museum city. Nouvel's dome is a complicated, geometric structure of 7,850 stars inspired by the cupola, a distinguishing element in Arabic architecture. These stars are replicated in eight separate layers at differing sizes and angles. As the sun passes overhead, its light filters through the holes in the dome, creating an appealing phenomenon known as the 'shower of light' within the museum.
