After relocating from Chittorgarh to a more fruitful valley, Maharana Udai Singh renamed the city he founded Udaipur in 1553. While in seclusion at Kumbhalgarh, Maharana Udai Singh recognized the benefits of the mountainous region. He selected the east bank of Lake Pichola as the safest location for his new city. While out on a search in the mountains, he came across a recluse named Goswami Premgiriji. The recluse gave him permission to construct a mansion on the shores of what is now called Pichola Lake. So, he made Girwa Valley the new headquarters instead of Chittorgarh.
