  • Due to the myths surrounding paranormal activities, tourists are prohibited from staying in the village after 6 p.m. However, there are a few overnight tours that are done under strict supervision, which you can explore. 
  • None of the houses in Kuldhara have a roof, as the place is in complete ruin, so be prepared to have an encounter with the sun. Remember to wear full-sleeved clothes to avoid tanning and carry sunscreen and goggles. 
  • As there is no shop around, remember to carry plenty of water and snacks. 
  • Touring around the place requires a lot of walking, so wear shoes that are comfortable.

One of the stories behind the abandonment of the Kuldhara village, Jaisalmer is the severe drought. Some people think that during the 19th century, the region was struck by a shortage of food and water that led to the abandonment of houses. 
 
Another story is such because of the oppressive policies employed by Salim Singh. It is known that he imposed heavy taxes on the villagers, which made their lives difficult. Moreover, he harassed females in the village, which led to the decision to leave the village. 
 
Furthermore, some of the legends say that the Kuldhara Village, Jaisalmer is cursed by the Paliwal Brahmins. During that time, they were known to be the dominant caste in the village.  It is said that the ruler of the village tried to forcibly marry a Paliwal girl. Because of this, the entire village decided to leave overnight and only left the curse, which resulted in inhabitants. 

No matter what the reason is, the village still stays as one of the most mysterious destinations among tourists.

The Kuldhara Village Entry Fees is the bare minimum. It is INR 10 for each person and if you have a car then the parking ticket for that is INR 50. 

The village is situated around 17 kilometers from the west of Jaisalmer.  From Jaisalmer, you may take a cab, a private vehicle, or the municipal bus to go to Kuldhara. It takes around 30 minutes to go from Jaisalmer to Kuldhara on the well-maintained route between the two cities.
